Her age also places her among the young athletes working to establish their future in competitive sports.
Early Life and Family Background
Harlyn grew up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, while her father built a prominent career in professional football. Living in a family connected to elite sports meant that dedication, preparation, and competition were familiar parts of her environment. Nevertheless, she did not follow her father into football. Instead, she developed an interest in gymnastics and pursued it through organised training.
Her mother, Kiya Winston, also has a connection to gymnastics. Kiya competed in the sport while attending the College of William & Mary, making athletics a shared interest across generations of the family. Harlyn trained at Xquisite Gymnastics in Pittsburgh before moving into collegiate competition. Her early development included strong performances in regional events, helping prepare her for the demands of university-level gymnastics.

Her mother, Kiya Winston, is a fashion designer and former gymnast. Kiya’s experience in athletics gives her a personal understanding of the commitment required to develop sporting skills. Dino played college football at Boston College, while Mason played football at Columbia University. Harlyn’s decision to pursue gymnastics gives the family a connection to two different sports at the collegiate level. Although the Tomlin family receives public attention because of Mike’s career, the siblings have their own educational and athletic experiences.
